1933 - 2006

Winfred Lewis "Wimpy" Wingfield, 72, of 374 Wayne Ave. Stuarts Draft passed away Wednesday morning March 9, 2006 at University of Virginia Medical Center. He was born December 18, 1933 in Augusta County the son of the late William P. and Lottie Hicks Wingfield. Mr. Wingfield was a US Navy veteran with 20 years of service and served in the Korean Conflict. He was retired from General Electric/Genicom with 43 years of service. He was a member of the Waynesboro Free Methodist Church, the American Legion and the Waynesboro Moose Lodge. He was a former coach of Pop Warner football and loved to play horseshoes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Georgie W. Marvin, Doris W. Overholtz and Mary W. Albrecht, four brothers, John, Edward, Guy and Robert Wingfield, and a nephew, Jay Fletcher whom he considered a brother. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Wingfield, one son, Steven L. Wingfield and his wife, Sue of Waynesboro, one daughter, Tammy Wingfield Shirley of Stuarts Draft, two brothers, Rea Wingfield of Baltimore, MD and Henry Wingfield and his wife Virginia of Waynesboro, one sister, Mabel Wingfield of Hanover Park, IL, one granddaughter, Aimie Shirley of Stuarts Draft and one great granddaughter, Abi Sprouse of Stuarts Draft. A service will be conducted 11:00 AM Monday, March 13, 2006 at the Waynesboro Free Methodist Church by Pastors David Kurtz, Larry Thomas and Keith Hulton. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park with military rites provided by the Stuarts Draft VFW Post #9339. Active pallbearers will be David, Gary, Mark, Kevin and Robin Wingfield and Doug Bridgeforth, Art Steele and Dana Pittman. Honorary pallbearers will be Kirk Fuller, Aimie Shirley and Chris Sprouse. The family will receive friends 7:00-8:00 PM Sunday, March 12, 2006 at Reynolds Funeral Service of Waynesboro, 618 W. Main St., Waynesboro, VA.
